Julie's Blog

Julie BriggsHi, my name's Julie Briggs, I'm 23 and from Bangor in Northern Ireland.

In July I graduated from the University of Ulster with a degree in physiotherapy... and I am going to Haiti to spend 6 months working as a physiotherapist in the Bethesda Medical Clinic, run by OMS International.

Currently the clinic treats over 200 patients a day. All the staff are Christians and seek to help the people both medically and spiritually and they are seeing people give their lives to Jesus through this work.

God commands us to love one another, to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and care for the sick. God also commands us to go into all the world and preach the gospel. This is what I hope to do in Haiti.

An important verse for me was given when I was 11 and at a Scripture Union camp.

'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.' (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God has directed my paths to Haiti. I am currently raising the support needed and hope to go towards the end of November 07 until June 08. As I go I would ask you to pray for me.

Please pray:

  • That I will settle down quickly and not be homesick
  • That I will be confident in my skills and in working alone as a newly qualified physiotherapist, the responsibility can be quite daunting
  • For every oppertunity to tell the Haitian people about Jesus
  • That I will pick up the language quickly and be able to communicate well
  • That God will work through me during my time in Haiti

Thank you for your support and prayers.

Julie
