Junior Christian Endeavour is a worldwide church-based organisation
that offers an action packed program for children and young people from P5 to Year 9 and meets on Wednsday evenings at 6.45pm.
Christian Endeavour is the original and still the most effective
leadership training organisation for young Christians. Its motto is
"For Christ and the Church" and this is translated into its aims which
are to lead children and young people to the Lord Jesus Christ as
Saviour and then to train them to serve Him as Lord and Master.
Through
this the members commit themselves to a programme in the local church.
By participating in what has been termed a "do-it yourself" style
weekly meeting and monthly Act of Consecration, they are trained for
effective service for Christ and the Church.
The young people plan
their own meetings and activities, with the minimum of adult assistance.
It is in Junior CE that Juniors start to train for service for Christ
through full participation in the Society meetings, and in church and
extra-Society activities. Juniors are encouraged to follow two Training
Schemes which lead to the award of badges and certificates:
British National Award Scheme
Juniors work at a number of tasks ranging from
the Bible and Christian Reading to Practical Christian Living, and
receive credit for each one successfully completed. Badges are awarded
at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
Irish Junior Proficiency Award
Juniors must complete sections on the following to obtain the Badge:
the Bible, Missionary, Citizenship, and CE History and Practice. Junior
Christian Endeavour offers a kaleidoscope of other events outside the
weekly meeting which encourage fellowship, the development of skills
and talents, and service to the community. Leaders are free to choose
from the activities listed below those which best suit the needs of
their Society:
Top Society Quiz
A quiz based on CE History and Practice and Bible Knowledge is
organised at both Local and Irish levels to encourage inter-Society and
inter-Union fellowship.
Talent Contest
This annual event encourages children to use their God-given talents by
participating in a variety of classes which offer opportunities to read
aloud from the Bible, recite Christian poems, play a musical
instrument, or sing sacred songs as solos or part of a group or choir.
Rallies / Fun Days
Juniors from the various Societies within a Local Union attend
an Annual Rally and contribute items to the varied programme or a Fun
Day with games, barbecue and epilogue etc.
CE Sunday Service
At this Church Service the Juniors take all the parts except the address which may be taken by the Local or Irish CE President.
